eDiT Workflow

eDiT runs a workflow where not only dictation attributes are freely configurable but also the way dictation items are distributed to transcriptionists can be customized. eDiT is shipped with a preconfigured standard digital dictation workflow where administrators can configure which group of authors work with which transcription pools.

The workflow starts with an author initiating a new dictation either by clicking New Dictation in Outlook or by pressing the Record button on SpeechMike. He dictates with the help of an Outlook-like eDiT Recording window.

Recording and playback may be controlled by SpeechMike and Footcontrol devices. Navigation between dictation properties is possible using the TAB key.

Dictation creation is also possible when the user is not connected to the network. The author may store his dictation in an offline Dictation Drafts folder and open it later. Once dictation is finished, the author may send the dictation for transcription by clicking on Send or pressing the EOL button on SpeechMike.

When the dictation is sent, the eDiT workflow decides where to route the dictation and places it in the proper transcription pool. All dictation attributes as well as the dictation itself are stored in SharePoint, which eventually stores data in an MS SQL Server database.

Transcriptionists may access multiple transcription pools based on their permission settings in SharePoint. All the items that are available for the user for transcription are shown in a single Dictations list.

The transcriptionist can search across predefined attributes with a single search box. Once she finds an item to work on it is checked out to her not allowing other users to work on the same item. The eDiT transcription window is very similar to the dictation window.

Playback may be controlled by SpeechMike and Footcontrol devices. Navigation between dictation properties is possible using the TAB key.

The transcriptionist may save the transcription for finishing later, which keeps the lock on the item blocking other transcriptionists from working on the same item. Once the transcriptionist finishes the transcription, its state becomes finished and the item reaches its end state in the eDiT workflow.
